One Choice
“One Choice” is part of the Follow series through the Sermon on the Mount. In this section Jesus draws a line in the sand for His followers to show them that they are either one His side completely or against Him completely.
Scripture Passage: Matthew 6:19-24
Jesus gives three illustrations to demonstrate that there is a choice between serving Him only or serving the world only. He points out that there is no third choice, we either worship Him alone or the world alone.
The first illustration is what we count as our treasures. If we treasure and pursue treasures that are of this world then we do not follow or worship Him. If on the other hand we treasure and pursue treasures that are spiritual or of heaven then we both follow and worship Him. Stuff in and of themselves aren’t bad but when we place great value and put our focus on them then they become an idol. We can still have stuff but our stuff cannot be our focus. If our focus is on stuff then we don’t really worship God.
The second illustration is where our focus is. The eye is the member of our body that we use to look. If we are looking and focusing in the right place or on the right things then the rest of our lives will reflect that. If, on the other hand, our focus is not in the right place we have seriously problems because the rest of our lives will also reflect that. Our focus can only be on Christ, if it is any other place then we are focusing on evil.
The third illustration has to do with the master and the servant. We can only serve one master. God is telling us to do one thing and the world/Satan is telling us to do something else. We can only follow and obey one not both. Either we obey God or we obey Satan. Those are our only two choices.

God Speaks in Binary
Binary Code is a computer language that uses only 1’s and 0’s. When using binary you only have two options: a 1 or a 0. In the same way we only have two options: (1) Serve Christ with 100% of our lives and 100% of the time, or (2) Serve the world and ourselves. There is no third option.
