10 Targets for our Student Discipleship Ministry


At our Destination meeting on June 6th, we set forward 10 targets or goals that we want to accomplish in the 6 years that a student is in the Student Ministry.  I have included a rewording of those targets along with 2 or 3 objectives for each goal.

Below are the basic targets and objectives.  The language and exact verbage is still being thought out.  See last week’s blog for a brief description of these targets/goals.

1.   Students will be able to identify a personal purpose for their lives. 

  • By learning the Biblical purpose of humans (Teaching Objective)
  • By identifying a personal call in their own lives (Practical Objective)

2.   Students will develop leadership skills. 

  • By learning about leadership (Teaching Objective)
  • By engaging in at least one leadership role in the Student Discipleship Ministry (Practical Objective)
  • By engaging in at least one ministry role within Fellowship Baptist Church (Practical Objective)
  • By engaging in at least one leadership role outside of the church (Practical Objective)

3.  Students will enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • By committing their lives to Jesus Christ in salvation (Practical Objective)
  • By learning the Gospel Message (Teaching Objective)

4.   Students will develop a Biblical World-View.

  • By learning the meaning of a World-View (Teaching Ojective)
  • By learning the major World-Views (Teaching Objective)
  • By learning to apply Scripture to every situation (Teaching Objective)

5.  Students will develop a consistent Quiet Time.

  • By learning the basics of a quiet time (Teaching Objective)
  • By participating in a personal quiet time on a regular basis as pre-defined by the student (Practical Objective)

6.   Students will develop healthy relationships.

  • By developing a relationship with at least one adult in a discipleship role (Practical Objective)
  • By developing positive relationships with the other students in the Student Discipleship Ministry (Practical Objective)
  • By learning and identifying what a healthy relationship is (Teaching Objective)
  • By learning and identifying the concept of Biblical friendship (Teaching Objective)

7.  Students will learn to study the Word of God.

  • By learning basic hermuentical concepts (Teaching Objective)
  • By participating in Journey Groups (Practical Objectives)
  • By reading through the entire Bible before graduation (Pratical Objective)

8.   Students will know and be able to defend what they believe.

  • By learning Biblically-sound theology (Teaching Objective)
  • By learning to study the Bible for theological concepts (Teaching Objective)
  • By identifying their theology on God (Trinity), Creation, the Church, Revelation, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, Salvation and Eschatalogy (Practical Objective)
  • By learning basic apologetics (Teaching Objective)

9.   Students will share their faith. 

  • By learning basic evangelism techniques (Teaching Objective)
  • By learning the basics of their testimony (Teaching Objective)
  • By sharing their testimony at least once (Practical Objective)
  • By sharing the gospel and testimony with at least one person (Practical Objective)

10.  Students will be on mission.

  • By learning the Biblical mandate of missions (Teaching Objective)
  • By learning about different people groups and cultures throughout the world (Teaching Objective)
  • By identifying mission opportunities in their everyday lives (Practical Objective)
  • By participating in at least one local mission project (Practical Objective)
  • By participating in at least one national mission project (Practical Objective)
  • By participating in at least one international mission project (Practical Objective)
